Both have worked widely in the UK, including some years in the Far East, developing knowledge of international hard and soft landscape design, masterplanning down to the detail of construction and planting; including tree transplanting techniques, tendering and contract management, statutory requirements, land management, landscape assessment and public consultation.

The approach is an energetic personal commitment to a project and team, bringing with them imaginative design, crisp thinking, a serious consideration of the environment and design implications, and a thorough knowledge of traditional and modern materials.

Verbal presentation skills are complimented by traditional drawing craft (much preferred as presentation media) as well as modern CAD techniques.

A telephone call will find Charlotte or Andrew who will be delighted to spend time, explaining how to commission the practice and to discuss client ambitions.

News

Charlotte has completed her MA! at the Plymouth College of Art with colours flying: her FarmFoodRoots dissertation - how food-taste and quality reflects the terroir of a place - won her a Distinction and is developing into a marketing tool for local brands of farm produce. This is to be expanded - so please contact her.

She has already held soil and yoghurt tastings at local primary schools (promoting local and organic food), a South Hams AONB field study day, presenting a lecture on garden design for the Friends of Dartington.

And continues to be a trustee of CCANW (Center for Contemporary Art in the Natural World) based in Haldon Forest near Exeter, currently helping to curate a series of exhibitions, events and a conference based on Soil Culture.

Andrew is half way through his MA in Architectural Conservation at University of Plymouth, providing technical expertise that is invaluable for building and garden conservation. Advice on the appropriate repair and restoration of private dwellings and historic elements of the built landscape is a new consultancy service, and enquiries are welcome.

He will be presenting a lecture at the Devon Rural Archive on the narrative of a Modbury townhouse in March.

The practice has recently helped to win planning permission for a new iconic building in the South Hams; part of Alain de Botton's Living Architecure suite of holiday homes, aimed to provide a special design experience for the visitor, and designed by the famous Swiss architect Peter Zumthor, designer of this year's Serpentine Pavilion.

While Totnes has two new pocket parks now open, designed by the practice.

And Following the success of Castle Drogo visitor centre in 2010 the Practice has won two new commissions with the National Trust; at the Avebury World Heritage Site and Buckland Abbey, home of Francis Drake.

From site planning to detail, the context provides the clues for the design. Building-layout, materials and existing site assets can be manipulated to meet expectations for high quality attractive living environments. The practice has designed new squares and street-scapes as part of the urban scene at home (part of the David McKay Vision for Plymouth, and a pocket park Totnes) and abroad (recently for Michael Balston in Fuhai new town in NW China), working closely with architects and planning authorities to achieve exemplary design. From conceptual-design and site planning to hard landscape detailing, mature tree planting, water and public art; the goal is to promote fresh design appropriate to the setting, in conservation and new-build contexts.
